Catching Up January 2025
Hey, what the fuck, how're you?
A lot has happened in the last two months. After the 2024 US General Election, my partner and I decided we didn't want to be in a red state anymore, especially seeing what was coming down the state legislative pipeline, pulled up stakes, and drove 3000 miles through the Southwest back to the Pacific North West. It's a little daunting. I'll eventually have to find a job again -- my current gig is extending my job out until I can train my replacement... whenever they hire them. We'll also have to find a place to live. But for the moment, we're back in a place where we can walk around and the winter is mild. Also the drivers are a little bit more sane.
MFF
I've been collecting my thoughts on this for a while, because it was a Big experience for me. I keep coming back to it, but it's something I should have been doing 20 years ago that, for brain reasons mostly, I was not. I took some pictures I'm really happy with, though not nearly enough. I sat in on panels, did a lot of people watching, even talked to a few people. I wish I had made more acquaintances, but practice and all.
So going forward, what do I think?
- I plan to go to more. As much as I can. Anthro Northwest sadly happened too early; we arrived two weeks too late. There's one in March in Vancouver, but a trip that requires hotel stays is kind of out of the question for a while. But there's a good chance I'll be in Portland for Furlandia. I intend to go. And I intend to volunteer.
In fact, my goal going forward is to get more involved in the communities I say I'm a part of. I want to volunteer at furry cons, and zine cons. I want to help. And eventually I want to table again. Put out some zines and books and hopefully a comic to sell. But I gotta do that stuff first, which is rude.
A Thing to Share
It's been hard to enjoy anything in my week long drive across the country, but I've been really enjoying Deep Space Discounts by DeepBlueInk a lot. Imogene wakes up in an intergalactic prison alternative program, working at a space WalMart with a bunch of aliens. The characters are all charming, and while short, the episodes are a lot of fun. Give it a watch!
So yeah
So that's my catch up for the beginning of 2025. I hope you're well, and the year is kind to you.
